"Saturday market and the whole plaza belongs to everyone. Strangers share tables, kids chase pigeons between the stalls. I arrived alone and somehow left with two phone numbers and a loaf of bread."
observation 1

On market days the plaza becomes common ground — the stalls give strangers a reason and a place to talk. Belonging here comes from shared activity, not architecture alone.

Potential problems

  • Weekend crowds exceed the bin and seating capacity
  • Stall edges pinch the walking corridor near the fountain

Design interventions

  • Widen the central walking spine on market days
  • Add water points and more shared tables to hold the social energy

"I love this place but I avoid coming here in the afternoon because there is no shade. The stone gets so hot it radiates at you from below, and the glare off the pale flagstones is relentless. In the morning it is completely different — soft light, people lingering."

From voice: "I love this place but I avoid coming here in the afternoon because there is no shade. The stone gets so hot and the glare is relentless."

observation 1observation 2

The plaza is loved but physically punishing after midday — heat and glare push people away from the very heart of the space. Attachment is emotional, not thermal.

Potential problems

  • Western edge completely exposed to afternoon sun
  • Hot paving radiates heat back at body level
  • No shaded transition between arcade and open plaza

Design interventions

  • Plant deep-canopy trees or add shade sails along the western edge
  • Use lighter, high-albedo paving to cut radiant heat
  • Cluster movable seating in the shaded arcade zone
